NATHAN WOODS, R.I.P

Former WORCS Champion passes following crash at WORCS opener in Taft, CA.

It was just this week that we got the press release that two-time WORCS champ Nathan Woods (r) was signed with the newly formed Carbon Raptor Stillwell Performance Racing team to contest the 2011 WORCS series alongside former MX privateer Kevin Rookstool. Unfortunately, we just got word that following a crash practicing for the WORCS series opener in Taft, CA. this weekend, Nathan passed away on the way to the hospital late this afternoon. He was 32 years old.

Early on Nathan rode the four stroke motocross nationals before heading off-road. While he rode for the Ty Davis team, the Paso Robles father of two won his two WORCS titles. Nathan later moved to team Suzuki and Husaberg.

just received a shocking phone call from Justin Quinn (a.k.a. Offroadtoday here at sx.com) about the death of WORCS pro racer Nathan Woods. Justin and Nathan are/were pretty good buddies at one time and he is devastated. News of what happened are still not verified but the news source of his death is very solid. Since Justin's phone recently crapped out his contact numbers to Nathan have been lost. Please if you have any way of contacting Amanda (Nathan's wife) please pass any information along to Justin or send me a PM in which I can relay to him.

Today off-road racing lost one of the greatest off-road champions ever to throw a leg over a dirtbike. Nathan Woods, while practicing for the tomorrow's WORCS race, passed. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Woods his two sons, little Nate and Braxton, and the entire Woods family. Godspeed #54.

Tackling a a course with a a true National caliber 3rd loop, David Pearson found himself locked in a battle with KTM's Kurt Caselli. Unfortunately, motor problems sidelined Caselli less than a mile from the finish. David Pearson rode to the win, with Kawasaki desert aces Destry Abbott second, and Jacob Argubright third. Amazingly, Caselli was able to push his bike the rest of the way, and log an incredible 5th place for the day. The course claimed some riders, as top guns David Kamo, Kendall Norman and Nick Burson were DNF's for the first round. The Desert MC course had something for everyone, and finishing was truly an accomplishment!

Watch the boys rub shoulders and trade blows as they complete an entire lap at breakneck speeds. Despite leading for the majority of his races on Saturday and Sunday - BJ experienced some mechanical issues and did not podium.
